GEORGIANA OPRY HOUSE AWARDED GRANT FOR BUILDING REPAIR

Sep 23, 2025 Georgiana, Alabama - The Georgiana Opry House, recently recognized as a historic landmark and registered nonprofit, has received a grant in the amount of $21,000 from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to repair roof damage caused by last year’s storms. The Arts Council’s Creative Places Arts Facilities program provides funding for construction, renovation, restoration and enhancement of arts facilities across the state, helping communities preserve cultural spaces and expand access to the arts.  “We have been closed for all this time, and we are so grateful for the grant and for the cooperation of the construction companies who have helped make this possible,” said Opry House Director Tracy Eason. “We will be able to begin to serve our community, you know, as our commitment has been since day one.”

The grant will allow Boyd’s Property Solutions, serving as general contractor, to oversee renovations alongside Crimson Roofing Company. Work on the roof is scheduled to begin this week and be completed just in time for the Opry House to host its fourth annual Bluegrass Gospel Festival on Sept. 27.  Email newsletter signup Sign up for our daily email newsletter  “This became a historic landmark last year and getting this grant allows us to secure the building for future improvements,” said board member James Little. “This is a great opportunity for Georgiana because it’s the start of a revitalization effort on a building in downtown with a lot of music history that’s connected to Hank Williams.”  The Opry House has been closed since storms in May 2024 left the building uninhabitable. Eason said the repairs mark the beginning of a broader effort to restore the facility so it can continue offering community programs.  In recent years, the Opry House has frequently hosted concerts, family movie nights, provided free music lessons for children and opened the space for school and community events.
